Thank you for logging on to the school website to find out more about our Diversity Week 2018 and our Diversity/Tolerance Art and writing competition.

During the week beginning Monday 24th September 2018, we will be giving time to a number of different guest speakers in assemblies, visitors and schools to celebrate the diversity of Britain today. We are looking forward to visits from Cedars Academy, Delves Lane School, Newcastle Central Mosque  our local LGBT Federation and Gateshead Youth Forum, to name just a few.

To celebrate and get Oakfield thinking about diversity and, in particular the idea of tolerance, we are holding an Art/ writing competition where children are invited to submit their ideas about the subject of diversity as writing of any form  or as art.

Children may wish to focus on a historical icon who has stood up for what they believe in e.g. Nelson Mandela, Emmeline Pankhurst, Anne Frank or they may simply show the diversity that surrounds us in a form that is suitable for their own understanding or age.

Please see below for ideas and let your imagination go wild. You could draw a comic strip about Malala or create a colourful collage. It could simply be a picture of your wonderful family.

If you need any help, please don’t hesitate to ask a teacher in the infant or junior schools.
