Our Chinese pen pals from Yan Wu Primary School in Xiamen (China) have sent every child in Y4 Chinese New Year Wishes.  4 Beech and 4 Pine received a range of letters, photographs, pictures, Powerpoints and short movies.

The Chinese children put a lot of effort into their greetings and we hope to do the same to send back to them very soon.

We have been building our relationship over the past year and now every child in 4 Beech and 4 Pine has a partner in China that they can write to and share culture and language.

Xiamen is in the south east coast of China, close to Taiwan.

Our partner school is called Yan Wu and over the past year, when time difference has allowed, we have shared songs language and culture via video chats.

Our link is supported by the Confucius Institute at Newcastle University who have provided Oakfield with Chinese teachers for 4 years.

Below is a picture of children from Yan Wu who have received our pictures and cards. They were kindly taken to the school along with a knitted Angel of the North, just before Christmas by the director of the Confucius Institute.

Please use the information above to help you think about the kind of letter, photos or information that you would like to send to your Chinese partner. You may wish to bring in information on a memory stick or send it to Mr Renwick on jamesrenwick@oakfield.school. Larger files would be best brought in on a memory stick as they are more difficult to email.

Please only include photographs and information that you are happy to share with our partner school.

Our next planned video chat will hopefully be on the morning of April 1st 2019 where we will share ideas about a bilingual short story.
