Specialisms

Chinese

Our school has developed a close relationship with the Confucius Institute at Newcastle University who provide us with Chinese teachers who teach beginners Chinese  from the Foundation Stage up to KS2 and also provide a family club where children can learn Chinese together with grandparents, parents and guardians. We also have a partnership with Yan Wu Elementary School in Xiamen on the south east coast of China. Our KS2 pupils regularly share language and culture with Yan Wu children. They are also developing their understanding of China through their pen pals with whom they exchange cards, letters and information.

Music

At Oakfield Infant and Junior Schools federation we aspire to stimulate pupils through a wide range of musical experiences such as singing, which is taught in a variety of curriculum subjects; listening and appraising; and playing instruments.

French

French is currently taught through fun activities, songs and games in the Junior school in Years 3, 4 and 5 by Mrs McNall.

Mrs McNall has studied in France and Spain as part of her university degree and has taught in a school in France as part of her specialist teaching qualification, PGCE with Primary French.
